Meet Mr. King, Co-Founder & Co-Owner of King Dancing Inc
As someone who has been dancing since childhood, movement has always been a significant part of Philip King’s life. He has built expertise around Foundational Hip Hop styles such as Popping, Locking, Break Dance, and Party Dances. Throughout High School and University, he also elected to pursue dance classes, immersing himself in styles such as Dancehall, West African, and Latin dance. These experiences not only broadened his skill set, but also deepened his appreciation for the diversity of the art form of dance.
Philip has spent countless hours choreographing, recording dance, producing dance videos, and exploring various styles and techniques. To date, Philip has produced over 30 dance videos, honing his skills of choreography, set design, filming, editing videos, and producing final exported dance projects.
At the Calgary Arts Academy, Philip taught curricular and elective dance classes as a full-time Dance Artist to support creative learning through movement. Drawing inspiration from his Dance Projects, he put together a year-end show. His students presented a mix of choreographies to students and members of faculty at the CAA campus.
At Calgary French and International School, Philip has had the opportunity to combine his teaching and dancing skills to choreograph for Musical productions such as “The Little Mermaid,” “Newsies,” “Big,” “Legally Blonde,” and “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
He is thrilled to share his love of dance with children and adults alike!
Our lifelong appreciation for dance is rooted in a shared, innate passion that has fueled us from the very start. In 2015, we launched our first "Dance Project," a mashup of choreographed pieces that we developed from scratch—selecting songs, creating costumes, designing sets, and bringing it all together in a compilation. This experience not only sparked cherished memories but also reinforced our belief that dance should be fun and expressive.
In 2021, we released "Dance Project II," showcasing how much we had grown in production, choreography, and vision. We continue to collaborate on dance videos that embody the same spirit of creative expression. Vanessa now teaches as an award-winning choreographer, while Philip continues to perform at galas and festivals. Through every step of the way, we embrace the belief that dance is meant to be FUN!
Dance Project III (2025)
We are thrilled that we continue to dance to this day and cannot wait to share our passion with students of all ages and abilities.
